Elkhorn High senior can become the second wrestler in program history to win multiple state titles
Bill Busch is no longer an assistant coach with the football program. New NU head football coach Matt Rhule on Tuesday decided not to retain Busch. Busch was a defensive analyst in 2021 and began this season as special teams coordinator before serving as interim defensive coordinator spanning NU’s last eight games and made good improvements to the defense. Serving in 1990-93 as a graduate assistant and 2004-07 as an assistant under Bill Callahan primarily working with safeties and special teams. A native of Pender, Nebraska, Busch played football at Nebraska Wesleyan from 1985 to 1987 and earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Nebraska Wesleyan in 1988. Busch added a master’s degree in 1990 from Nebraska-Kearney. He married the former Laura Bonta in April of 2019 and the couple has three children – Sydney, Olivia, and Gianna.
Bill Busch completed his second season at Nebraska in 2022. He served as the Huskers' special teams coordinator for the first four games of the 2022 season before being elevated to interim defensive coordinator by interim head coach Mickey Joseph. Busch, who owns more than three decades of college coaching experience, spent the 2021 season as a defensive analyst with the Huskers. Busch is in his third coaching stint at Nebraska and second as special teams coordinator. He previously served as a Husker assistant from 2004 to 2007, working with the secondary and special teams. He was also a defensive graduate assistant for the Huskers from 1990 to 1993, helping Nebraska to three consecutive Big Eight titles. A veteran coach with more than 30 years of experience, Busch has spent more than 20 years of coaching experience at Power Five schools. He has extensive experience in the Big Ten, spending three seasons at Wisconsin, two seasons at Nebraska and Rutgers and one season at Ohio State. Busch won a national championship as an assistant at LSU in 2019, and he coached in one national title game as a graduate assistant at Nebraska. He has served on the staff of three national championship head coaches (Urban Meyer, Ed Orgeron and Tom Osborne).
