The Huskers most experienced quarterback this season, Casey Thompson practiced Tuesday for the first time since being injured against Illinois on October 29th. Interim coach Mickey Joseph said that "Casey was making some throws and taking reps in team drills at practice. He made some throws so we are still going to take him day by day to see how he feels on game day, but I expect him to be able to practice every day, but we do not know at what volume he will be able to throw it. He makes good decisions, but I want to look at how the ball is coming out of his hand and make sure there is no nerve damage or any pain with the throwing. We will figure it out from there. If he can not play at a high level I will not play him.” The fact that he's able to practice is a big step forward after being sidelined the past 2.5 games from nerve damage in his elbow that has caused numbness in his pinkie and ring fingers.

Coach Joseph also explained that backup QB Chubba Purdy will miss the last two games of the season from an injury against Michigan. “Chubba is out with a high ankle sprain. We will get him in surgery in two or three days. Also injured in the Michigan game was Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple after being knocked down by a Wolverine RB. ” I told him in the beginning to go to the box, and he got wiped out and it was bad, but I think he is going to go to the box now, "Coach Joseph said. “Logan was better today. He has been a little beat up, but he was better today and he threw the ball around a little bit and he ran pretty well today, Joseph said” When asked about Smother's play at Michigan when Purdy went down, Joseph said “I thought Logan had a decent effort. I thought he did not see it well. We had Trey (Palmer) running down the middle for a touchdown, and he did not see him and he is looking right at him. He just did not see him. That kid needs reps. He had a lot of reps last week, but I guess it was not enough. Logan when he comes in, he gives it his all. He gives it everything he has. He is a tough kid.”
